Confidence is essential in any man's almost-never-ending quest to conquer women.

I found that to make the change, you need to throw yourself in at the deep end and force yourself into social situations, communicate and be around as many people as possible.
Strike up a conversation with a stranger (in the lift, on the bus, wherever...)
Learn how to get people involved in what you're saying
Practice the art of storytelling - rehearse your verse and converse
Learn how to make the conversation a two way affair, ask a question and wait for an answer, exchange views etc...
Talk at eye level i.e. to them and not at the floor or somewhere in the distance
Get used to making eye contact when you speak
Encourage positively with most of what you say - notice how people respond
Observe body language - learn how to read people and how you are being perceived to them. (Your body language and projection).
Get involved with groups (activities outside of work, kung fu classes, sports, evening classes, whatever...)
Elevate your voice, so you can be heard
Talk to groups when telling a story, socially, at home, wherever...
Ask strangers questions, "where's the nearest blah, blah", "are you sure?", "and you wouldn't happen to be lying, would you?", try to inject a little charm every time.
Smile - get used to it! You can get away with being cocky so long as you smile.
If you have a speech impediment, seek a voice coach or try practicing in front of a mirror.
Engage women as often as you can with these interactions; remember talking to women is the overall goal here. (aside from building confidence)
Keep at it - the change is measured only by how often you are engaging people.
